Harry says stress of memories around Diana's death is 'wound that festers'

Prince Harry Meghan open up in new documentary about their life in the spotlightMore

Diana died in 1997 in a auto crash while being followed by paparazzi.

The Duke of Sussex has said the grief of the memories surrounding his mother's death is "a wound that festers", following a royal tour of southern Africa. "Or is it still a sort of wound that festers?"

The documentary Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, will air on ITV on Sunday at 9pm.

"Last year, when my wife and I attended, we knew we were expecting our first child, no one else did at the time, but we did, and I remember", Harry said before he got emotional.

The Duke said he suffers constant flashbacks to the "bad stuff" as a result of his public role in the Royal Family, saying being in front of the cameras forces him to endure the "worst reminders" of her life.

While in Africa, a place he has said he retreated to after Diana's death, Harry retraced the exact steps Princess Diana took in Angola in 1997 where she raised awareness about the millions of buried landmines scattered throughout the country - and made clearing the mines an worldwide, humanitarian mission.

Tennessee Department of Health reports first vaping-related death
The new numbers reinforce earlier findings that patients are largely male and young. Those who have died tend to be older, with a median age of 44, the CDC said.

The couple spoke to Tom Bradby, journalist about their documentary and their travels.

As Meghan and their son Archie stayed in South Africa, Harry visited Malawi, Botswana and Angola, where he highlighted his mother's anti-landmine work more than 20 years earlier.

While he's keen to "finish what she started", he finds it tough to be "reminded of the bad stuff".

Speaking to one of the coaches during a "power hand" session as part of their tour of South Africa the duchess told Ash Heese that "parenting is the new strength that she and Harry are learning".

"So in that respect it's the worst reminder of her life as opposed to the best", he added.

The ITV crew followed Harry and Meghan, 38, throughout the official tour for the hour-long documentary, which will be broadcast on Sundayon ITV in the United Kingdom, and next week on ABC in the US.
