PM Modi cleans TN beach ahead of talks with Xi

Xi given warm welcome in India

The Indian press note, issued after the end of Informal summit, stated that the objective of the mechanism would be to achieve "enhanced trade and commercial relations, as well as to better balance the trade between the two countries".

There is no set agenda, India's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Speaking at a global diplomacy level, Jinping said, "Differences between the two countries should be viewed in a correct way".

Both leaders agreed that peace and tranquillity had been maintained at the border over the previous year since the Wuhan summit, when they had given "strategic guidance" to the two militaries, as per the Indian official.

India and China have been at odds over the disputed Ladakh region in Kashmir, which sits on the Indo-Chinese border and has been the setting for conflict between the two countries for decades.

On commerce, India and China are both facing a protectionist United States and want greater access to each other's markets.

The Prime Minister also briefed Xi on the handlooms of Tamil Nadu.

Fourth, China and India should deepen pragmatic cooperation and tighten ties of interests, Xi said.

During Xi's trip from hotel to Mahabalipuram in the state of Tamil Nadu, people from all walks of life, including young students, lined the streets waving Chinese and Indian national flags, with young men and women in Indian traditional costumes singing and dancing, to welcome the Chinese president for his visit.

And I believe for the final couple of years the robust characters have disappeared and [are] not making a distinction anymore'. Since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club as Premier League champions in 2013, United have failed to win another league title.

The Prime Minister further said, "We have decided that we would prudently manage our differences without letting them turn into disputes, that we would be sensitive to each other's' concerns and that our relations strive towards World Peace and stability".

Xi said he has received grand welcome and warm hospitality from the Indian government and people, and has felt the profound traditional friendship between the two peoples throughout the visit.

Modi took Xi on a personal tour of temple monuments dating back to the seventh and eighth century at Mamallapuram in southern India when regional leaders had trade ties with Chinese provinces.

The development assumed importance in the light of India repeatedly expressing concern about its trade deficit of more than $50 billion with China.

The president said they will instruct relevant departments of both sides to implement the results of the meeting so as to open up new prospects of China-India cooperation.

However, India is facing severe backlash from its domestic constituencies to sign the pact, as it involves China. China said India should not act unilaterally in Kashmir, a portion of which China also controls.

Trade, especially the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), is also expected to be a focus of the Xi-Modi talks.

Noting that he attaches great importance to the friendship with Xi, Modi said he is willing to maintain such conducive and effective strategic communication with Xi and together create a attractive future for India-China relations. "And, I look forward to further discussions".
