How to Use Siri to Control Spotify in iOS 13

Microsoft News app update fixes annoying iOS 13.1 hyperlink bug

The Microsoft News app updated to Version 3.2.27 for Apple's iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches today. I've spent some time with the update and overall it works as advertised, though it's worth noting a few limitations. It bestowed up in the corporation's beta app in late September, but it has instantly succeeded out to all users. It works the same way for playlists, artists, and individual songs. To make sure you don't miss a thing, just keep your Updates turned on. I understand that Spotify is limited for free users, but this is something that should be made more clear to users up front because it's confusing and makes the experience feel broken. You can download it via the tvOS App Store.

A report earlier this summer suggested that Apple and Spotify were in talks about letting Spotify make use of Siri, although it sounds like this wasn't so much of a negotiation between the companies as a collaboration to help Spotify take advantage of new capabilities that were coming to iOS 13 anyway.

According to Spotify, Siri can now control playback on the iPhone, iPad and AirPods.

Apple didn't respond to a request for comment.

Low Data Mode support is a nice addition to Spotify for those times when you're running up against a mobile data cap. When low data mode is enabled in your iPhone, Spotify will now turn on Data Saver. That said, Spotify still has many other complaints about Apple's behavior, including its 30% cut of all in-app subscriptions, its rules against linking users to online subscription forms outside the App Store, and its restrictions on sharing deals and promotions in Spotify's iOS app.

This turnabout comes after Spotify pointed to issues it has with the way Apple operates its business, including the previous lack of Siri integration, when the streamer brought a series of complaints against Apple to the EU.

iOS 13 introduced SiriKit to developers, which allowed third-party apps to access specific functions that could be called via Siri.
