Air Force F-16 crashes in Germany, pilot suffers minor injuries

American F-16 Fighter Jet Crashes Near U.S. Air Force Base in Germany

Spangdahlem Air Base is a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation facility with the USAF as the primary tenant, located near the small German town of Spangdahlem in Rhineland-Palatinate, between the cities of Bitburg, Trier, and Wittlich.

The United States military says an F-16 fighter jet has crashed in Germany, Washington Post reports. She provided no immediate details about the cause of the crash.

A reported 4000 U.S. military personnel, 1000 civilians and approximately the same number of family members are working at the base as well as an additional 800 German nationals.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Al-Qaeda's South Asia chief killed in Afghanistan
A further 14 people were arrested, including five Pakistani nationals and one Bangladeshi. An additional 22 Taliban fighters, including foreigners, were killed in the raid.

Germany is no stranger to military aircraft crashes, including in its own shortage-plagued Bundeswehr armed forces.

Authorities said the pilot was transported to a nearby hospital, but described the injuries as "minor".

In June this year, two of the air force's Eurofighter jets crashed after colliding in mid-air in northeastern Germany. One of the two pilots survived and the other one was killed.

The fighter jet was from the 480th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. The pilot was engaged in a routine training flight.
