Dick's Sporting Goods Destroys $5 Million Worth Of Weapons

Dick's Sporting Goods CEO brags about turning $5 million worth of rifles into scrap metal

Gun rights advocates boycotted the store over after the company's decision to stop selling the modern sporting rifle, which Stack said cost his chain a quarter of a billion.

Stack told CBS News that the guns were turned into scrap metal.

Walmart made a decision to stop selling assault-style rifles four years ago and stopped selling ammunition in August after a mass shooting at one of its stores in El Paso, Texas. The chain's CEO, Ed Stack, chose to go a step further and completely stop selling rifles to anyone under the age of 21.

'After selling through our current inventory commitments, we will discontinue sales of short-barrel rifle ammunition such as the.223 caliber and 5.56 caliber that, while commonly used in some hunting rifles, can also be used in large capacity clips on military-style weapons, ' he wrote.

The National Rifle Association tweeted an article written by right-wing publication Breitbart and wrote: "Dick's Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack told CBS News that his company destroyed $5 million worth of "assault-style rifles" to keep them out of private hands".

"We've got the whole category under strategic review", Stack said in the CBS interview.

Christian Pulisic's Chelsea troubles: Frank Lampard admits to 'harsh' decisions
Brazilian Oscar played 203 games during his Chelsea career, scoring an impressive 38 goals and supplying 37 assists in return. At just 21-years-old, Pulisic still has a bright future ahead of him. 'You can't completely ignore it.

After the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in Newton, Conn., he said he ordered all the AR-15 semi-automatic rifles to be removed from all the stores across the country. "If we really think these things should be off the street, we need to destroy them", Stack recalled.

"We probably get a little bit of a backlash, but we didn't expect to get what we got", Stack said. Stack said the retailer is considering extending pulling guns from all stores.

"I don't understand how somebody, with everything that's gone on, could actually sit there and say, 'I don't think we need to do a background check on people who buy guns.' It's just, it's ridiculous", Stack said. "Take a Stand. Make a Difference".

'All we were going to do was just take it off the shelf and not say anything, ' Stack said.

In March, the company ended sale of all guns and ammo at 125 of its stores.
