GM brake recall: GM recalls 3.4 million pickups, SUVs over braking problem

A 2016 Cadillac Escalade

GM has issued a recall for almost 3.5 million trucks and SUVs in the U.S., the Associated Press reports. The recall affects 3.46 million 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevy Silverado, 2015-2018 Chevy Suburban, 2015-2018 Chevy Tahoe, 2014-2018 GMC Sierra, and 2015-2018 GMC Yukon vehicles. As the vehicles grow older, the pump may not produce sufficient vacuum power, which could increase the stopping distance, and increase the risk of a crash.

While the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) began investigation the issue in November, GM has only been in contact with the NHTSA for several months on the issue.

The American government had been pressing the company for a recall after more than 100 crashes and several injuries related to the issue.

Antonio Brown’s accuser releases statement on sex assault allegations
Belichick was asked specifically about the possibility of Brown being placed on the commissioner's exempt list by Roger Goodell. Brown's lawyer, Darren Heitner, posted a statement on Wednesday, saying he is not guilty of the allegations.

As part of its rectification measure, GM said its dealers will reprogramme the electronic brake control module to improve how the system utilises the hydraulic brake boost assist function when vacuum assist is depleted. Starting September 6, unlucky auto owners are being notified if their truck or SUV is part of the recall. Instead, the automaker said in a statement that the vacuum pump receives oil lubrication, and in the affected vehicles, a screen can become clogged and cause a reduction in vacuum power.

GM will not replace the pumps in the vehicles, however. If the problem surfaces, owners will see a message on their dashboard telling them to service the brake assist system, Flores said. 5-litre turbocharged engines. GM says in documents posted Wednesday on the NHTSA website that a software error can corrupt data used by the engine control computer.
