Brexit: DUP denies report it would accept Irish Sea checks

Overdue visit Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson at Government Buildings in Dublin on Monday

The DUP - who prop up the Prime Minister's minority government - support proposals for a bridge which they hope could bring economic benefits to Northern Ireland and Scotland, but it has also been touted as a potential solution to the controversial backstop.

"Really this is a matter for the British government", he said.

Mr Johnson was responding to reports that he is considering plans for a regulatory border in the Irish Sea in a bid to salvage a Brexit deal ahead of the October 31 deadline.

Johnson said the current session of parliament was longer than any since the English Civil war in the 17th century, adding that lawmakers would have plenty of time to again discuss Brexit after an European Union summit on Oct 17-18.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney has said it is "difficult not to be sceptical" about the British government's stated desire of reaching a Brexit deal with the EU.

A Northern Irish rights campaigner will appeal the dismissal by Belfast's High Court on Thursday of his case arguing that a British exit from the European Union without a withdrawal agreement would contravene Northern Ireland's 1998 peace accord.

‘Saturday Night Live’ Adds Three New Cast Members for Season 45
Change is a constant at SNL , which is helmed by Canadian executive producer Lorne Michaels. "Let the f-ing ch-nks live there". The video was initially reported by Variety after freelance writer Seth Simons brought it to their attention.

Arlene Foster, leader of the DUP and Nigel Dodds depart Downing Avenue following talks with United kingdom Prime Minister.

A lawyer representing Johnson's government said on Monday that under Article 50 of the EU Treaty, the obligation to negotiate was on Brussels rather than on the member state.

This follows a shock ruling Wednesday, when three senior judges in Scotland unanimously declared that Johnson's advice to the Queen to suspend, or prorogue, Parliament for five weeks was "unlawful".

"Within the world of politics the well-recognised phenomena of claim and counterclaim, assertion and counter-assertion, allegation and denial, blow and counter-blow, adjustment and modification of government policy, public statements, unpublished deliberations, posturing, strategy and tactics are the very essence of what is both countenanced and permitted in a democratic society", he added.

"This will hopefully ensure my case is heard and Northern Ireland has a voice and representation alongside the rest of the United Kingdom in the Supreme Court", McCord told Reuters by email. Some 3,600 people died in the conflict.

He now intends to push forward with the issue at the Belfast Appeal Court, which means it could be heard at the Supreme Court next week.
