Wendy’s to take another shot at breakfast

Wendy's to add 20,000 workers to fire up the breakfast grills again in 2020

Currently, around 300 Wendy's locations serve breakfast, according to WGRZ.

Wendy's said it plans to take some of its signature items and adapt them for breakfast consumers, including a Frosty cappuccino called the "Frosty-ccino" and a Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit. Wendy's has over 6,000 stores across the country, and adding several new menu options is expected to be an expensive endeavor.

The company plans to hire roughly 20,000 new workers to make it happen.

"Launching breakfast in our USA restaurants nationwide provides incredible growth opportunities", Wendy's President and CEO Todd Penegor said in a statement, adding that having Wendy's "fan favorites" on the breakfast menu will set it apart from the competition.

This will be Wendy's fourth foray into the breakfast market; its most recent attempt was in 2012.

Breakfast is serious business in the hyper-competitive world of fast food. Todd Penegor, Wendy's president and CEO, told CNN that the breakfast rollout "provides incredible growth opportunities". Wendy's has previously tried pushing breakfast in past years with lackluster sales results.

Wendy's dropped some major news in August when it announced the return of its beloved spicy chicken nuggets.

A fast food chain known for its "fresh, never frozen" burgers will begin offering breakfast nationwide in 2020.

Moreover, the company expects cash flows from operations of almost $290-$305 million and free cash flow of roughly $215-$225 million.

McDonald's, on the other hand, has been scaling back its all-day breakfast offerings at select franchises.
