Pennsylvania Couple Spends $120K That Was Accidentally Put in Their Bank Account

The husband and wife were hit with felony charges of receiving stolen property and theft on Tuesday for blowing through just over $107,000 - on a $14,500 Chevrolet SUV, a race auto, two four-wheelers and $15,000 in payments to friends, among other things - after their area BB&T bank teller accidentally deposited $120,000 on May 31, state police records show.

Robert Williams and his spouse, Tiffany Williams, appeared in courtroom Tuesday after they spent two and a half weeks blowing by way of most of their unintentional windfall on bills comparable to vehicles, payments and a camper, information station WNEP reported.

The couple dropped most of their "found" money on a race vehicle, a camper, two four-wheelers, a auto trailer and a new SUV, according to court documents obtained by local station WNEP. Robert and Tiffany Williams of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, told authorities that they spent the money on an SUV, a camper, a auto trailer, two four-wheelers, and other things.

Back in June, one Montoursville, Pennsylvania, couple apparently found themselves in that predicament, the Sun-Gazette reports. Before the accidental deposit, their account had an average balance of $1,000.

The couple now face felony theft charges and receiving stolen property - they have since been released on a $25,000 (£20,000) bail.

A couple in Montoursville, Pennsylvania has learned the hard way that Monopoly rules do not apply to real life and that bank errors in your favor do not mean you can keep the money.

According to the complaint, she told the bank that they had spent some of the money on a four-wheeler.

That triggered an overdraft, since the couple had already spent most of the money, state police said.

Bank officials called state police in July after attempts to communicate with the couple were unsuccessful.

Nate Weaver, a neighbor of the couple, told CNN affiliate WNEP that the allegations are "kind of shocking". The two were arrested and are now out on $25,000 bail.

"I don't even know what's going on", the father said. She told them she would speak with her husband about it and call them back, but never did, police said.
