Hong Kong Students Appeal to U.S. for Support in Ongoing Clashes

China's strategy now is to root out the peaceful demonstrators from those participating in violence. Angry protesters smashed glass windows and sprayed graffiti at the station's exits. They tossed street signs, emptied trash cans down the subway stairwells and began building barricades.

The protesters marched on Sunday from Chater Garden in Central to Lower Albert Road, where they handed a petition letter to a representative at the U.S. Consulate. Hong Kong residents had feared it could be used by China to extradite people for political reasons.

Authorities have targeted prominent activists who have not been at the forefront of the recent protests.

Democracy activist Joshua Wong Chi-fung was released once again by a court after the 22-year-old was arrested at the airport on Sunday on suspicion of breaching his previous bail conditions.

Wong said in a statement through his legal representative that he was being held in custody and expected to be released after a hearing today.

Anti-government protesters have resorted to increasingly radical tactics in an attempt to pressure the Hong Kong government to meet their demands, which have grown to include electoral reforms and Lam's resignation. This latest protest will likely draw the ire of Beijing, which has already accused the United States of meddling in the months-long political crisis and warned that Hong Kong is an internal Chinese matter.

Currently, under the Hong Kong Policy Act introduced in 1992 by now-US Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell and passed by US Congress in the wake of Tiananmen Square crackdown in 1989, the US has to treat Hong Kong as a separate entity apart from China. The bill would allow the U.S.to impose sanctions on Hong Kong and Chinese officials seen to be undermining the autonomy of the territory.

Hu Ping, editor-in-chief of the USA -based Chinese-language political magazine Beijing Spring, said Beijing is biding its time.

Last year, Hong Kong was one of the world's most visited cities, with 30 million tourists.

It should be pointed out "Wong" is anxious about what might happen if Hong Kong approves policies which go against US interests.

Goff, Gurley lead Rams to win over Panthers
Some of the questions, such as Newton's health, were answered, but many remained after the team's first game of the season. Coach Sean McVay held him out of offseason workouts and Gurley practiced every other day during training camp.

For its part, China has not only warned foreign powers not to interfere, but has outright accused the U.S. and Britain of encouraging the protests.

On September 8, police threw teargas canisters directly at several journalists wearing clearly marked press vests while they were covering protests in the Causeway Bay metro station, according to news reports and footage circulated online showing the attack. "Carrie Lam has every reason to be anxious about a strong US response" when Congress sits again, he said. "As the President has said: "they're looking for democracy and I think most people want democracy".

In some instances, the police said they were responding to fires set by demonstrators, acts of vandalism they perpetrated, and their habit of shining laser beams around areas they have blockaded.

Lam, the Hong Kong leader, has rejected those demands. There are calls for another mass protest march this weekend.

Apart from the Tung Chung subway stop, dozens of youths also rallied at malls belonging to rail link operator MTR Corp., accusing it of helping police during a violent raid at the Prince Edward subway station on August 31.

"We are in a very urgent situation". "Please support us in our fight".

"Hong Kong Chinese are snapping up golden visas at an unheard-of pace", said Georg Chmiel, executive chairman of the Chinese property group Juawei.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators marched to the U.S. Consulate here on Sunday to urge American lawmakers to pass legislation in support of the territory's democratic aspirations.

A number of USA officials, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and author of the bill Rep. "The Carrie Lam concession, so-called concession has come too little, too late". It said United States citizens and embassy staff have been the target of the propaganda and urged them to exercise increased caution.

He had previously been jailed for his involvement in those protests.
