China, US to hold trade talks in October as mistrust remains

According to Chinese media, . the USA and China have agreed to resume their trade talks in early October.

As the trade war between the US and China continues, delegations from both countries are scheduled to meet for negotiations next month, according to a statement from China's Ministry of Commerce.

Commerce Minister Zhong Shan, People's Bank of China Governor Yi Gang and Ning Jizhe, the deputy head of the economic planning commission, were also on the call, according to the commerce ministry statement.

A USTR spokesman later said the two sides agreed to hold ministerial-level trade talks "in the coming weeks".

Trade teams from the two countries will hold talks in mid-September before the high-level talks next month, the ministry said.

Trade has become a sensitive topic for the global economy as the United States has escalated a tariff war with China.

GP's defection leaves the Government without a working majority
Sir John said: "We're supposed to have fixed-term Parliaments of five years but we seem to be having elections regularly". In a statement , Dr Lee said the "party I joined in 1992 is not the party I am leaving today".

A spokesperson for Lighthizer's department confirmed that the two sides talked and agreed to hold meetings in the United States capital "in the coming weeks".

The U.S. and China have raised tariffs on billions of dollars of each other's imports, disrupting trade in goods from soybeans to medical equipment and battering traders on both sides. "But the talks don't mean the two sides will inch closer or that their stances soften".

The top officials last met in Shanghai in July for a round of trade talks, which were described as "constructive" but ended with no announcements.

In the latest round of tit-for-tat tariffs, the USA imposed additional duties of 15 percent on 110 billion dollars' worth of Chinese goods on September 1.

While the US-China negotiations began in earnest in January and seemed at first to make progress, they were abruptly called off in the spring by Trump.
