Sydney stabbing: Knife-wielding man arrested in CBD after woman injured

Police at the scene

According to NSW police, a young woman was stabbed in a hotel nearby.

Wood said there was nothing as yet to suggest the woman was known to her attacker.

Video footage on Twitter showed a man running across a city intersection and jumping onto the hood of a vehicle, waving what appeared to be a knife.

A Channel Seven cameraman who followed the man as he was chased by civilians filmed him as he was finally restrained, showing a bottle of pills labeled Antenex next to him; Antenex is a medication for anxiety and depression.

NSW Police commissioner Mick Fuller said in a press conference that the suspect had a history of mental illness and they were investigating reports about him having escaped from a mental facility.

The woman was rushed to St Vincent's Hospital with a stab wound to her upper back and is in a stable condition.

Luke continued: "It's amusing, we (Luke and Paul) always said 'What would you do when you hear about these things around the world, what would you do?"

"I saw a man wielding a knife covered in blood jumping on top of a auto".

"These people are heroes, and I want to acknowledge that", he told the newspaper.

"Another person [on the street] was screaming at people to get out of the way, the fact he had a knife and the fact he is going to kill you", Walker said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Twitter that the violence was "deeply concerning" and praised the people who restrained the assailant.

Canadian police reveal cause of death of teen killers
The RCMP has not revealed how Schmegelsky and McLeod died or what the item found in the vicinity was. Police first said they found a damaged aluminum boat along the river that day.

"I've always been that type of guy that I'll analyse it a bit and see the risk but we're also raised by good parents who were like, "Help people", and that's what we do". Her death is said to be "linked" to the stabbing attack during which the suspect shouted "Allahu Akbar" before being arrested.

Witnesses say the man attempted to stab multiple people near a busy intersection on Tuesday.

Police officials issued a statement a short time ago stating that the woman's body was discovered "inside a unit" on Clarence Street in Sydney at approximately 3:15pm this afternoon.

The pair were joined by several others who ran to the scene, where another man was trying to subdue the knifeman with a chair.

Police Superintendent Gavin Wood said the woman's injuries were not life-threatening.

"To approach a person, with clear evidence of a stabbing, these people are heroes".

The Australian reported that the suspect ran through the streets with a knife before he was subdued.

Mr Cuthbert told the Australian paper: "We had a window open to get some air in and then we just heard the commotion ... we looked out and saw him on top of a auto, wielding a knife, and we all just kind of reacted from there".

Police credited the bystanders who took on the attacker, with Wood calling them "heroes".

"Then they just sat on him until the cops came".
