Gulf Arab states can secure Persian Gulf waters alone

Iran threatened war if Israeli warships enter the Persian Gulf as part of the U.S. maritime coalition

The presence of Western forces in the Gulf is fuelling regional tension, Iraqi Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Hakim said on Monday (August 12).

"Any presence of the Zionist regime in the Persian Gulf waters is illegal, as it may result in war and confrontation in the region", the top commander warned.

US National Security Adviser John Bolton has argued that former British Prime Minister Theresa May rejected Washington's proposal to join the US-led naval mission in the Gulf.

Al-Hakim stressed Israel's participation in such a mission was unacceptable. Special Aide to the President of the Islamic Parliament, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, wrote on Twitter last week that if Israel does get involved in the worldwide coalition in the Straits of Hormuz, then "it will be engulfed in wrath of the region and its smoke will rise from Tel Aviv".

IRAN's commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's navy, Alireza Tangsiri, warned journalists on Sunday that "any illegitimate presence in the waters of the Persian Gulf could spark a war".

Reports of stabbing in Sydney's CBD
The police had earlier informed people on Twitter about an ongoing area in Sydney's Central Business District (CBD). Paul O'Shaughnessy, 37, said his brother Luke, 30, saw a man with a balaclava wielding a knife.

Britain and the United States have already joined forces to set up a naval security mission in the area.

It's not clear if Israel has been asked to participate.

Katz claimed that Israel was determined to stop "Iranian entrenchment" in the Middle East region and strengthen Tel Aviv's relationship with the Persian Gulf countries, Israeli news website Ynet reported. Iran has been accused of attacking four oil tankers in May and two in June.

The ship seizures came after British Royal Marines helped to impound a tanker carrying Iranian oil off the British overseas territory of Gibraltar on July 4, alleging it was destined for EU-sanctioned Syria, an accusation Iran denies.

Since Mr Trump removed the USA from the deal, drones have been downed and tankers mysteriously attacked in Gulf waters.
