Fortnite Champ Bugha Swatted During Twitch Stream

Bugha won $3 million for his first-place finish in the first-ever Fortnite World Cup in July and even appeared on The Tonight Show to talk about his win with host Jimmy Fallon.

Kyle "Bugha" Giersdorf, the 16-year-old Fortnite player who just became the newest World Cup solo champion, had his home "swatted" on Saturday as he live-streamed a session alongside pro players Ghost Bizzle and FaZe Dubs, Kotaku reports.

Bugha was playing Fortnite Arena Trios with friends when the incident occurred.

If you're not aware of the term, "swatting" is the term for the rather vicious and risky act of actually calling the police on a streamer while they're playing a game live - usually with some terrifying made-up accusation that causes the cops to turn up in force and highly armed.

Streaming live on Twitch, Bugha caught footage of when the police arrived.

"They came in with guns", the teen said.

We took risks but that's the way here. "At 1-0, we were the better team, but I can't stand here and look happy with that". United will be back in action on Monday August 19 when they take in a trip to Wolves.

Cops called Bugha's home and spoke with his dad. and eventually figured out it was a hoax when one of the officers recognized the gamer. "That's scary. The internet's f--ing insane".

The other gamers on his team continued to play, and won the game in his absence.

After a row over Call of Duty in December 2017, Tyler Barriss told the police that he was holding his family hostage, and gave them an address in Kansas.

Giersdorf was streaming "Fortnite" when his father informed him that "armed police" were at the front door.

He then said one of the officers lived in his neighbourhood and recognised him.

Tyler R. Barriss pleaded guilty in November to 51 federal charges related to fake calls and threats including a December 28, 2017, call to police in Wichita, Kansas, during which Barriss falsely reported a shooting and hostage situation at a local address that resulted in the death of Andrew Finch, a 28-year-old father of two.
