Google Maps' AR walking directions come to iPhones and non-Pixel devices

It was previously demoed last year, and has been available to Google Local Guides level 5 and up, as well as Pixel phone owners, but it's about te see a broader release later this month. That's because Google wants you to use Google Maps for nearly everything you'd need during your travels.

At its developer conference, Google I/O, earlier this year, Google showed off its new AR navigation feature that showed directions in the real world by making use of augmented reality, and now, the company has extended the test to all Android and iOS smartphones that support ARCore or ARKit. It is still a beta feature, though, and there's probably still some rough edges.

Imagine if you could get turn-by-turn navigation for walking just as you can when driving, but with the directions overlayed on the real world objects in front of you. The latter is limited to Android devices for now, but the former is universal and can also be accessed when not connected to the Internet.

Dixie Brands and AriZona to Launch THC-infused Cannabis Drinks
Arizona is hoping to get a head start in the US cannabis market over those taking a more cautious approach. Last year, Heineken's Lagunitas debuted a marijuana-infused sparkling-water beverage in California.

Maps will also now include "amazing local food" suggestions, complete with information about how long the wait is, and popular dishes. Coming soon to the timeline view in Google Maps on Android you'll be able to toggle between different timeline views including Day, Places, Cities and Countries.

With Location History enabled, which is a sensitive topic for Google, Maps will offer you an updated Timeline to help you remember your last vacation.

Live View takes advantage of your phone's camera and Google Maps' vast database to deliver a unique AR (augmented reality) navigation experience that layers the Maps interface over a real-time feed from the camera.
