Apple reportedly working on folding iPhone and iPad for 2021 launch

Analysts say this is because users are holding on to older models for longer as they're put off by the increasing prices of new models.

This marks the seventh consecutive quarter of year-over-year decline for the smartphone market. Samsung and Huawei, despite all its recent troubles in the USA, shipped 75.1 million and 58.7 million phones, making their market shares 23 percent and 18 percent.

Ranking the 4th spot in terms of shipment, the shipments of China's smartphone producer Xiaomi (01810) were about a third of Huawei's during the same period. Shipments in Q2 for the company were down less than 1% in Q2 with market share rising to 18%, up 2% from a year earlier. Effective competition with Chinese makers will rely on fast execution and agile adjustments.

As usual, Apple is late to the game since Samsung and HUAWEI have already announced and revealed their own foldable devices. While the company is working on a foldable iPhone, it is the foldable iPad that will launch first. According to the IHS data, Apple shipped 35.3 million iPhones during the three months to the end of June, capturing 11% of the smartphone market. The company has been a key partner to carriers in Europe during the rollout of 5G networks.

The search area has also been extended into areas of tropical forest around the resort and to a nearby river. Quoirin's parents say they found her bedroom empty and a window open on Sunday morning.

By comparison, the country's two major smartphone brands Vivo and Oppo each recorded about half of Huawei's total shipments last quarter. In OPPO's case, a greater focus has been placed on expansion in Europe and India.

For many other smartphone brands, business conditions continue to be hard, with few signs of a silver lining on the horizon.

As global smartphone shipments continues to decline, Apple has dropped to fourth place in the worldwide smartphone market, according to findings from IHS Markit published on August 5.

Most small smartphone manufacturers focus on a few countries, hence for an global comparison Opensignal looked at the three largest smartphone makers by shipment volume -Apple, Huawei and Samsung - because they are used in sufficient volume in many countries.
