Robert Mueller Testimony Delayed Until July 24th

Combined with the five-minute limit for each questioner, a two-hour window to ask questions means only about 11 Judiciary Committee members from each party would have had an opportunity.

The agreement gives Mueller an extra hour to testify before the Judiciary panel before he gives two hours of testimony to the Intelligence Committee. But after several weeks of negotiations, Mueller agreed to appear for two short hearings before the judiciary and intelligence panels. The issue arose after some members were concerned that they wouldn't have time to ask Mr. Mueller questions under the time constraints.

Schiff's Intelligence Committee has 22 members, about equal to the variety of Judiciary members who had been initially anticipated to query Mueller.

The earlier uncertainty presented a distraction for Democrats, who have billed Mueller's testimony as a potential watershed moment that could focus attention on segments of his 448-page report that raise troubling questions about President Donald Trump's efforts to impede the federal investigation. Mueller will testify publicly before House panels on July 17 after being subpoenaed. It said no collusion, and it said, effectively, no obstruction. Those familiar with the talks said one reason was the ongoing negotiation about how long lawmakers would have to question Mueller, Politico said.

The Judiciary Committee additionally sought to interview former Mueller aides Aaron Zebley and James Quarles behind closed doorways on Wednesday. Mueller said in a May news conference that charging a president with a crime was "not an option" because of longstanding Justice Department policy.

Trump was chummy with Epstein in the past, and the president has been publicly accused by over 20 women of sexual assault. His lawyers have not yet commented on the payout claims.

Saying that Mr. Mueller has already made clear his conclusions, the president added, "You can only get so many bites at the apple". Following that testimony, Mueller will then appear before the Intelligence Committee.

"Everybody on the committee desires a chance to look at Mr. Mueller", mentioned Consultant David Cicilline, a senior Home Judiciary Democrat. "The new format will allow all Judiciary Republicans to question the special counsel on July 24".

"I appreciate news the chairman has taken seriously the concerns Judiciary Republicans raised this week".

"I don't think anyone has said they want their time in the spotlight, I think at the end of the day the American people will be better served if we spend as much time as possible communicating the importance of the stakes of this hearing as it relates to an incredible attack on our democracy, unprecedented in our nation's history", Jeffries said.
