Jeffrey Epstein paid $350K in witness tampering bid: Prosecutors

Billionaire Jeffrey Epstein arrested in NY on sex charges

Financier Jeffrey Epstein paid $350,000 to two doable witnesses in opposition to him in his sex trafficking case, NY federal prosecutors alleged Friday in a expose to make a decision on the 66-year-extinct leisurely bars except trial.

The former hedge fund manager - who was arrested last week on child sex trafficking charges - doled out a total of at least $350,000 to two people past year, federal prosecutors said in new court papers.

Epstein is charged with one count of sex trafficking of minors and one count of conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking of minors related to alleged conduct that occurred between 2002 and 2005.

They claimed Esptein made two payments, one for $100,000 and another for $250,000, to the two people. They said they learned of the payments through records they obtained from a financial institution, which was not identified.

In court documents prosecutors said: "This course of action, and in particular its timing, suggests the defendant was attempting to further influence co-conspirators who might provide information against him in light of the recently re-emerging evaluations".

And "Epstein's efforts to influence witnesses continue to this day", the prosecutors added.

Mr Acosta had responded to the criticism on Tuesday with tweets saying Mr Epstein's crimes were "horrific" and that he was glad prosecutors were moving forward based on new evidence and testimony that could "more fully bring him to justice".

Investigators allege Epstein used employees and associates to lure the girls into his homes, and also paid some of his victims to help him find other potential victims.

In another Palm Beach police report, one of Epstein's victims told police that he had hired private investigators who were terrorizing her family - in one case driving one of her parents off the road during a vehicle pursuit.

A hearing on Epstein's detention is scheduled for Monday.

Meanwhile, speculation mounted about Epstein's private island in the US Virgin Islands.

"Everybody called it 'Pedophile Island, '" said Kevin Goodrich, who operates boat charters. On ABC's Good Morning America, George Stephanopoulos, a former Clinton senior adviser, reported on Epstein's arrest without ever mentioning Bill Clinton.

There was also a maids' quarters and another square-shaped mansion that features a gold dome.

Jeffrey Epstein's connections to Democrats are hardly secret, and even Nancy Pelosi's daughter Christine warned that some of the left's favorites may be implicated in the future.

The deal has come below rising scrutiny with the brand new prices in opposition to Epstein this week.

One of the former workers told Bloomberg that he remembered two closely-guarded security boxes in the main residence.
