Truck Spills $175K on Georgia Highway

People bend down to take cash from the armoured truck on the side of a Georgia

An armoured truck carrying cash accidentally had its door spring open causing money to spill out over the highway.

- Lelouch Vi Hendrxx (@ohthats_jayy) July 10, 2019So much cash was raining down on I-285 in Atlanta this morning, I can only suspect there to be one culprit.

According to police there were more than 15 vehicles that stopped to collect cash. They say the side door of the armored vehicle came open and the money spilled on the highway.

While it may have seen like a good idea at the time, those who picked up cash and kept it for themselves could face theft charges of lost or mislaid property - a felony or misdemeanor, depending on the amount they scooped up.

But officers and the Garda World truck crew only managed to gather a few hundred dollars from what was left over.

"This is someone's money, it's not free money, it belongs to someone it needs to get back to them", said Dunwoody Police Sgt. Roberts Parsons. Dunwoody Police shared with FOX 5 News one of many videos that have been circulating on social media. Police are asking all who took advantage of the spill to return the cash.

Chelsea draw with Bohemians in Lampard’s first game

Investigators say they will be looking at license plates from videos of the incident posted online. "We understand it was a freakish occurrence, but do the right thing and return the money", the post added.

Dunwoody Police warned people, keeping the money is against the law.

At least two people have already returned some of the bills.

"People likely saw the police lights coming over the highway", Parsons said.

"We certainly understand the temptation of that, you (sic) certainly see the money falling from the sky".

The back door of an armoured truck sprang open yesterday on a USA highway, causing an estimated NZ$260,000 worth of American cash to spill out.
