Rep. Ocasio-Cortez, fellow Democrats testify on 'cruelty' of border facilities

AOC disavows her earlier suggestion Pelosi is racist

Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings made the remarks Friday as his House Oversight and Reform Committee opened a hearing on the treatment of apprehended children and conditions in border detention centers.

During an interview on Huntsville, AL radio's WVNN, Rep. Gary Palmer (R-AL), the chairman of the House Republican Policy Committee, laid out how the rise of Ocasio-Cortez is problematic for Pelosi as a well-funded Ocasio-Cortez is recruiting candidates to primary Pelosi loyalists and sabotaging Pelosi-led legislative efforts. "And I think this is really going to fracture the party because you can't have someone, a freshman in particular, that has the resources to go out and go after more senior members of her own party without really sabotaging the whole agenda". "What was worst about this was the fact that there were American flags hanging all over these facilities, that children were being separated from their parents in front of the American flag", she said. "We can not allow for this".

There's been some talk of friction among Democrats in the House, and now, in a surprise Friday tweet, the official House Democrats Twitter account is publicly calling out Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's chief of staff.

"Into that environment, we walked into this facility, we were asked to surrender our phones and be guarded by the people without a guarantee that no one there was in that Facebook group", Ocasio-Cortez said. In the months to come, lawmakers must come up with a compromise version between the one passed by the House and the one passed last month in the Senate, where Trump's fellow Republicans hold power.

The figures reflect "a deliberate, unnecessary and cruel choice by President Trump and his administration", the report said.

Another congressional newcomer, Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., said, "We do have a crisis at our border". Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of MI and Ayanna Pressley of MA don't have power. Pressley said one woman she met feared for her health because her seizure medication had been confiscated.

Maintaining a positive attitude will be key. "So I will try just to give my best", said Halep, who has lost just one set so far. When you hit down the line to her, she has to move to the ball. "I just feel like we know so much more about our bodies".

"It is real", he said.

"Every family I spoke to said they were being well cared for", Pence said, criticizing Democrats' "harsh rhetoric".

"I agree with the speaker: four people, four votes", Clay said Thursday.

Members grumbled that the feud between the speaker and the Bronx Democrat was a needless distraction. "We need Iran and its terrorist proxies to think twice before they attack Americans, our friends or our interests", he said.

Last week a report by the Department of Homeland Security's inspector general found children at some Texas border facilities who faced clothing shortages and lacked hot meals, while some adults were held for a week in a cell so crowded they had to stand.

In a since-deleted tweet, he also said, "Instead of 'fiscally conservative but socially liberal, ' let's call the New Democrats and Blue Dog Caucus the 'New Southern Democrats.' They certainly seem hell bent to do to black and brown people today what the old Southern Democrats did in the 40s".
