Eduardo Bolsonaro, 35, who's now serving as a congressman and advises his father on foreign affairs, told reporters he would in finding the publish if it had been supplied.

Bolsonaro said at a news conference Thursday that nominating his son is, in his words, "something on my radar". Senate opposition leader Randolfe Rodrigues tweeted: "It's absurd that he's even being considered".

On Thursday, Bolsonaro confirmed that he was considering nominating his son, a federal congressman representing Rio de Janeiro, for the post.

"Bolsonaro wants to govern in his backyard, extending [the government] to his family".

In Brazil, nomination to any ambassador's position is made by the president, but the candidate must be questioned by the Senate and approved by both the Senate and the House. "This is a complete mess". Mr Bolsonaro uses several of his family members as official advisers.

"If it is a mission given by the president, I would accept", Eduardo Bolsonaro told reporters, adding he was prepared to resign from Congress if the president appoints him.

Eduardo, who has close ties to the U.S. far right, also pointed to his role as head of the Foreign Relations Committee as further evidence of his suitability for the job.

He accompanied his father on his trip to meet Donald Trump at the White House, where he said Brazilians who were illegally living in the United States were "our embarrassment". But he questioned how powerful Eduardo Bolsonaro would be able to be there.

The place of ambassador has been vacant since April.
