Brazil's president wants to make his son US ambassador

"It is not nepotism, I would never do that", Bolsonaro said on a live social media broadcast on Friday.

Eduardo Bolsonaro, 35, who's now serving as a congressman and advises his father on foreign affairs, told reporters he would in finding the publish if it had been supplied.

In Brazil, nomination to any ambassador's position is made by the president, but the candidate must be questioned by the Senate and approved by both the Senate and the House. "This is a complete mess". Mr Bolsonaro uses several of his family members as official advisers.

When asked by reporters about his qualifications for the position, he said he had been in a foreign exchange programme where he "fried hamburgers in the United States, in the cold in Maine".

Eduardo, who has close ties to the U.S. far right, also pointed to his role as head of the Foreign Relations Committee as further evidence of his suitability for the job.

He accompanied his father on his trip to meet Donald Trump at the White House, where he said Brazilians who were illegally living in the United States were "our embarrassment". But he questioned how powerful Eduardo Bolsonaro would be able to be there.

The place of ambassador has been vacant since April.
