Barca announce €120M Griezmann transfer, Atletico allege insufficient fee

Messi Griezmann Barcelona

Asked about the club's statement following Barcelona's signing of Griezmann, in which they demand the full 200 million, Cerezo said: "If the club has released that statement, it's because they have evidence".

Barcelona delayed triggering the clause immediately in the hope they could negotiate a deal with Atletico that would allow them to pay the fee in installments. The two clubs met in Madrid last Thursday, but it quickly became apparent that Atletico would not accept a payment plan.

Griezmann's terms with Barcelona feature an €800-million buyout clause. He didn't and was subsequently fined. Atletico Madrid have released an official statement iterating that Barcelona have paid less than what they are supposed to pay.

Earlier in July, Atletico hit out at both Barcelona and Griezmann for showing them "disrespect" in reportedly agreeing a transfer in March.

Antoine Griezmann could not convert his World Cup form at the club level in the 2018-19 campaign.

Atletico Madrid have announced they have already "initiated the procedures" to contest the signing, effectively taking Barcelona to court.

Before joining Atletico Madrid in July 2014, Griezmann had played for another Spanish club, Real Sociedad.

During five years with Atletico, Griezmann, a World Cup victor with France last summer, scored 133 goals in 257 appearances.

That decision lasted just one year, as Griezmann announced before the conclusion of the La Liga campaign that he would leave the club at the end of the season before completing his move to Barcelona on Friday. He also won the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup in that time.
