Some of Valve’s Experiments are Going Public via Steam Labs

Steam Leverages Machine Learning in New Interactive Recommender

For additional Steam Labs experiments coming down the pipeline, you can join the Steam Labs Community Group and keep an eye on when new additions join the hub.

One of the key highlights of the Interactive Recommender is that it allows players to narrow down the release window of games they are looking for, and also lets them prefer games of higher or underlying popularity.

Valve considers these innovations as real experiments, and you can try them personally by reaching the newborn page dedicated to Steam Labs.

Now in a rare piece of (potential) good news for indies, Valve has today announced three new Steam Labs features, all created to help players discover a wider variety of new games.

Apple iPhone killer to come with breakthrough technology
Instead, the analysts predict the first notch-free iPhone will come in 2020, with the iPhone 12 series - but not all of them. However an advert released earlier this week, Apple claims that their Face ID is "safer and easier" than Touch ID.

For now, Steam Labs has three active experiments: micro trailers, an interactive recommender, and an automated, daily half-hour show about games. With Nvidia's Turing GPUs featuring Tensor Cores, itself hardware for the DLSS machine learning feature to save on performance through AI-powered image reconstruction, what do you think of the increased use of machine learning in games? For example: it can be directed to popular titles released in the past ten years, or niche games launched in the past six months. If you're intrigued by what you see of a particular game, you click on it to visit its store page. Steam Labs is meant to be a place for "rough, ephemeral experiments", so any or all of these three could be re-hauled before officially launching or be tossed out entirely. Game trailers play just for a couple of seconds each with sound; links are provided to the games or digital content so that users interested in these may check them out right away on Steam. The third one is titled Automated Show, and as you can guess is one giant video that showcases the newest games in the Steam Store, based again on your algorithm. The emergence of the Epic Games Store has challenged the ubiquitousness of Valve's storefront, and has much of the industry questioning its revenue split policies.

These features are Micro Trailers, Interactive Recommender, and Automatic Show.

The main event of this impromptu lab tour is easily the interactive recommender. The automatic show is... They could be tweaked, significantly changed, or outright dropped at any moment based on the whims of Valve and user feedback.

The firm revealed this via its website, saying that these features may never see the light of day, but they are still things they want user feedback on before making the decision.
