Religious group mistakenly petitions Netflix to cancel Amazon Prime series 'Good Omens'

Good Omens

Christian group Return to Order created a now-defunct petition addressed to Netflix to cancel the six-episode series, despite the fact the series is actually made by Amazon Prime. The issue? The petition calls upon Netflix, which has nothing to do with Good Omens, instead of Amazon. Much like the source material, the miniseries takes a angel-demon buddy comedy approach with Michael Sheen as the angelic Aziraphale who teams up with David Tennant's demon, Crowley, to halt the apocalypse (because life on Earth is comfy). Also appearing are Mad Men's Jon Hamm as the Archangel Gabriel and Better Call Saul's Michael McKean as a witch hunter.

The series began streaming on Amazon Prime on May 31. It also spoke out against a woman being allowed to voice God.

It says the show "presents devils and Satanists as normal and even good, where they merely have a different way of being, and mocks God's wisdom".

Return to Order calls out numerous transgressions- including that an angel and demon are depicted as good friends, that the son of Satan is portrayed "as a normal kid" and that God is voiced by a woman (Oscar victor Frances McDormand).

"In the end, this is a denial of Good and Evil: morality and natural law do not exist, just humanitarianism, and an ultimately useless creed", the petition concludes.

Last week , quite possibly under pressure from Lopez Obrador, Mexico's immigration chief resigned. He was replaced with a more hardline official , who formerly ran the country's prison system.

"This is another step to make Satanism appear normal, light and acceptable", the petition warns.

JOE was lucky enough to sit down with some of the cast and makers of the show in the lead-up to its release, and we fully recommend you check it out.

As of this writing, the petition has received 20,056 signatures.

Clearly Neil Gaiman isn't the only person amused by the petition, and one Twitter user took the joke even further and suggested punishing HBO for Netflix's failure to cancel Good Omens should be the next course of action. Says it all really.

Gaiman clearly saw the amusing side, tweeting a link to a post about the gaffe and writing: "This is so lovely".
