Amazon’s new Kindle Oasis cares more about your retinas

New Kindle Oasis adds screen warmth control to save your eyes

The biggest difference between this model and the new Oasis is that the latter sports an adjustable Night Mode light for nighttime readers.

Like the previous generation, which is now marked down to $199.99, the new model features a 7-inch display, is waterproof, and comes with Audible built-in. "The new Kindle Oasis introduces the next and improved generation of e-ink, which is faster in common customer scenarios such as getting back into your favorite book from Home or Library, looking up a word, and launching Settings, among others". The new Kindle Oasis also supports IPX8 waterproofing, good for submersion in up to 6 feet of water for up to two hours. More usefully, the front illumination of the old model is being added to with color temperature control. It's particularly troublesome at night when you might want to read a chapter or two before bed and the light is too harsh for your eyes. Basically, rather than simply changing the brightness of the screen to help with evening reading, it can alter hue as the day progresses. You can also schedule the screen warmth to automatically adjust with the sunrise and sunset.

Anthony Davis, Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson to star in ‘Space Jam 2’
In fact, Irving has hinted many times on social media that it is likely that he and Davis will be lining up on the same team soon. But considering their massive haul, I suspect the Pelicans would have acquiesced if Los Angeles pushed.

Amazon has stuck with the slim, physical page-turn buttons, though of course you can tap the touchscreen instead if you prefer. The base model with 8 GB of storage, still starts at $250, and a 32 GB model starts at $280, both with "special offers", which are lock screen ads.

The new Oasis boasts similar specs to previous models with features like a 7-inch illuminated screen, long-life battery and IPX8-level waterproofing that's created to protect the device even if it's dunked in a bathtub or a lake. For a limited time, those who order it will get six months of Kindle Unlimited for free. There's also a new Champagne Gold color that joins the previous Graphite. While the new fabric cases in Marine Blue, Punch Red or Charcoal color are priced at Rs 2,999 and the leather covers in Black and Merlot will be costing Rs 3,999. Note that CNET may get a share of the revenue if you buy anything featured on our site.
