Kate, William and royal family attend Ascot Races

The Queen was joined by Prince Charles and Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton as well as Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice.

The Dutch royal, looking sublime in a pink dress, was in Utrecht where she attended the reopening of a military hospital with the Netherlands' Secretary of Defence, Ank Bijleveld. The duchess accessorized the look, which was altered to include longer sleeves and a shorter hemline, with a matching hat from Philip Treacy.

The duchess did not attend Royal Ascot a year ago after she just gave birth to Prince Louis in April.

The royal need not have anxious, as her oversized hat protected her from the rain perfectly.

Members of the public gathered to watch the Order of the Garter. They spend the rest of the day watching the races from the royal enclosure.

The Royal Family were out in full force for the first day of Royal Ascot, an annual horseracing extravaganza.

Although the 37-year-old has been playing around with colour in recent months with her sunny yellow Trooping the Colour coat dress by Alexander McQueen gracing the headlines for all the right reasons.

This year's ceremony was particularly special, given Letizia and Máxima's husbands - King Felipe VI of Spain and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, respectively - were invested as Knights of the Garter.

Following the service the Queen led British and European royals from St George's Chapel.
