USWNT defends 13-goal blitz against Thailand

The U.S. Women's National Team began its FIFA World Cup title defense with a dominant 13-0 opening victory against Thailand in Group F.

Former U.S. national soccer player Heather O'Reilly says the American women are ready to make their mark on this year's World Cup tournament and hopefully bring home back-to-back trophies. "But we also feel like we've got more to do".

As the match went on, it became clear that Thailand couldn't get close to goal and it failed to break past the Americans' defenders.

It was also Morgan's first-ever World Cup hat trick.

So, it took 13 years of World Cup play for the men's team to do what the women's team did in one day. It was great to celebrate with them back in 2015 and I'm excited to root them on in their drive to earn their fourth star. Morgan put her arm around Thailand's Miranda Nild, who was wiping away tears on the field.

"Honestly, you're going up against a side that is the first time in the World Cup, they're just happy to be there..."

Bradley Cooper & Irina Shayk's Relationship 'Changed' After 'A Star Is Born'
Lady Gaga has absolutely no time for people who have accused her of causing Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk to split. The supermodel and the Oscar victor started dating in 2015, and welcomed their daughter Lea De Seine in March 2017.

Asked repeatedly about the lopsided score, US coach Jill Ellis wondered if a 10-0 victory in a men's World Cup would elicit the same questions. "We don't have any excuse and accept they are better", said Thailand coach Nuengrutai Srathongvian.

Who said soccer is a low-scoring sport? And I think that to be respectful to opponents is to play hard against opponents. "Yes, they are all athletes and they will be resilient".

The United States scored its first goal in the 12th minute, took a commanding three-goal lead in halftime, then erupted for four goals in a six-minute stretch of the second half to rout Thailand 13-0 at Staude Auguste-Delaune. The U.S. beat the Dominican Republic 14-0 in a 2012 Olympic qualifier in Vancouver, British Columbia.

"It's a World Cup and we just had to play our game but I think they can definitely rally, they have two more games and they definitely could perform in those games".

After netting four times in six minutes shortly after the restart, they then added six more goals in the last 16 minutes.

Sweden defeated Chile 2-0 earlier on Tuesday in Rennes, a match that featured a 40-minute weather delay.
