Dominican Resort Official Says Misinformation About Fatal Incidents Are Damaging Their Reputation

Robert Bell Wallace, 67, is the fourth US citizen that has died in the Dominican Republic, reportedly a month before three other Americans died in their hotel rooms on the island.

Robert Wallace of Turlock, Calif., arrived at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino resort in Punta Cana with his wife on April 10 to attend his stepson's wedding but fell ill nearly immediately the day after.

The sister of Yvette Monique Short told a Philadelphia television station that the 51-year-old died last June at the Bahia Principe after having a drink from the minibar in her room.

Wallace is the fourth American to die while visiting the Dominican Republic since the end of April. Authorities claimed that she too died of pulmonary edema and respiratory failure, although a family spokesman said that police did a "very cursory [look] into determining the cause of death".

Five days later, Edward Holmes, 63, and Cynthia Day, 49, were found dead in their room at the neighboring Grand Bahia Principe resort. Within five days, three US tourists died in their rooms at hotels owned by the Bahia Principe Hotels and Resorts group, a different hotel chain than where McCoy and her husband stayed.

Dominican authorities continue to investigate a third case that the victim recently made public on social media, detailing an hours-long assault by a man she said was wearing the uniform of an all-inclusive resort. Out of respect for the family during this hard time, we do not have additional information to provide. They were there to attend his stepson's wedding.

This is No Way to Win a Trade War with China
It also wants curbs on subsidies for Chinese state-owned enterprises and better access for USA firms in Chinese markets. Chinese authorities say the United States is exaggerating security concerns to block a potential competitor.

Annette Wedington told WJZ in an exclusive last week that she wants answers after her son, Terrence Richmond, died in Jarabacoa. "Things can happen. But right now we don't really know what's causing this and that's the biggest concern".

Social media users have expressed concern about the deaths, which have prompted a probe by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and CDC.

On Monday, travel expert Mark Murphy appeared on Fox News to discuss the latest incidents and provide some perspective for American travelers ahead of summer vacation. Her obituary simply states she died suddenly on June 23, 2018 while in the Dominican Republic. Both reportedly died of heart attacks. Garcia also said there were inconsistencies between the woman's account of the events during the day of the attack, and her husband's account.

It is not clear if a second autopsy will be performed on Day and Holmes.

As a result of the erroneous information that has been published, with which we do not agree, Bahia Principe Hotels & Resorts has suffered great damage to its image and reputation.
