Nepali sherpa scales Mount Everest for record 23rd time

Rita's closest peers climbed Everest 21 times. They've retired from climbing however

"I am not risen to break records, I just worked".

In addition to his almost two dozen summits of Everest, Rita has scaled several other peaks that are among the world's highest, including K-2, Cho-Oyu, Manaslu and Lhotse.

Kami Rita first scaled Everest in 1994 and has been making trips almost every year since.

A year ago he ascended Everest for the 22nd time, breaking the previous record of 21 summits he shared with two other Sherpa climbers.

Sherpa, who hails from Thame village in Solukhumbu district, first climbed Mt. Everest in 1994.

The climbing season ends in May and hundreds of climbers are now on the Everest, trying to reach the top from both the Nepali and Tibetan sides of the mountain.

FCC proposes tougher action against robocalls with blocking by default
The FCC's proposal also would allow providers to offer customers an even more aggressive form of blocking than the default option. FCC Chairman Ajit Pai put forward a proposal that would make it legal for phone companies to block unwanted robocalls by default.

The Sherpas who serve as guides for the potential mountain climbers of Mount Everest first go up to the mountain themselves and prepare everything for the mountaineers who are expected to scale the mountain later.

His latest ascent took him two summits clear of two fellow sherpas, hiking officials said. Both of them have retired.

Rita has been an advocate for other Sherpa guides, who he said do not get the recognition they are due. "I did not even know you could set records earlier", Sherpa said, last month before setting off for Everest base camp. Their stamina and familiarity with the mountains quickly made them sought-after guides and porters.

Perhaps most important, it is Sherpas who each year fix ropes and ladders over crevasses and icefalls that make things safer for the hundreds of climbers who will follow them.

This season, almost 1,000 people, including 378 paying climbers, will attempt the summit.

Spring is the most popular climbing season in Nepal because of favorable weather conditions.

He started his summit from Camp IV on Tuesday night and reached the summit point on Wednesday morning, said a basement official.
