Leaders address online extremism in wake of Christchurch shooting

Jacinda Ardern,PM Jacinda Ardern,New Zealand

Ardern's remarks came during a Tuesday interview with CNN's Christiane Amanpour in Paris, where she is attending a summit for the "Christchurch Call", a pledge against online extremism, along with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"From now on, anyone who violates our most serious policies will be restricted from using Live for set periods of time - for example 30 days - starting on their first offense".

"I've spoken to Mark Zuckerberg directly twice now. and he did give Facebook's support for this call to action", Ardern said.

The world's largest social media companies are promising to take stronger action to prevent the spread of violent extremism online.

Facebook said it's also investing $7.5 million in new research partnerships to improve image and video analysis technology aimed at finding content manipulated through editing to avoid detection by its automated systems - a problem the company encountered following the Christchurch shooting.

Officials from the U.S., Canada and Britain are expected to be at the summit, as well as Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and staff from Facebook, Amazon and Google, The Washington Post reports.

Antoine Griezmann transfer: France star confirms he is leaving Atletico Madrid
Griezmann's next destination is expected to be Barcelona, who have been linked with a move 28-year-old for the last three years. Since joining Atletico from Real Sociedad in 2014, Griezmann has registered 133 goals and 50 assists in 256 games for the club.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has welcomed the move, saying it has acted on the "Christchurch Call" for online terror material to be shut down.

"New technology to prevent the easy spread of terrorist content will be a major contributor to making social media safer for users, and stopping the unintentional viewing of extremist content like so many people in New Zealand did after the attack, including myself, when it auto played in Facebook feeds".

Two months after the deadly white nationalist terrorist attacks in two New Zealand mosques, Facebook has announced new restrictions on who can livestream video on the social network.

The promised measures include updating terms of use and codes of conduct so that they "articulate a clear basis for removal of this content from our platforms". "To be honest with you, I do not understand the United States". Facebook served as an organizing tool for the deadly neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville in 2017, for example, and lesser-known fringe websites hosted hateful screeds penned by the man accused of opening fire on a Pittsburgh synagogue a year ago.

Knott said the United States should be involved in the effort, and anxious that its refusal to engage could undermine an issue of global importance - particularly because virtually all of the major social-media companies are based there.

Facebook said Nick Clegg, the former United Kingdom deputy prime minister and now Facebook's vice president for global affairs and communications, would attend the meeting, Reuters reported. But "ultimately the regulation of these tools that transmit information should be a matter for governments, not just the whims of private companies".
