Conrad Black: Trump signs full pardon for former media baron

Conrad Black Former press magnate has been pardoned by Donald Trump

Black said in the article that he had not spoken to Trump since the President had taken office and that when his assistant put a call through from the White House, he first thought it was a prank.

The statement said those supporting Black's pardon include former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, Sir Elton John, Rush Limbaugh and the late William F. Buckley, Jr., founder of the conservative magazine National Review.

Black describes his "ordeal with the US justice system" as "never anything but a confluence of unlucky events, the belligerence of several corporate governance charlatans, and grandstanding local and American judges", followed with intensity because he was a media owner.

"I always try to take success like a gentleman and reversals like a man".

It's a scenario few could even have imagined when Conrad Black was found guilty of fraud and obstruction of justice in a Chicago courtroom in 2007, one that was packed so full of global media and spectators that a second overflow room was set up in the downtown courthouse.

At its peak, Black's newspaper group was one of the largest media empires in the world, with revenues in the billions of dollars and global daily circulation in the millions.

Madonna, on Eurovision, says she won't bow 'to suit someone's political agenda'
Finish DJ Darude said artists behind the scenes of the festival were "slapping high-fives and having a good time". This year's contest is being held in Israel after the country's entry - Netta's song Toy - won the 2018 edition.

The British peer once ran a media empire that included the UK's Daily Telegraph, the Chicago Sun-Times and the Jerusalem Post. He was deported to Canada upon release in 2012, and barred from returning to the US for 30 years.

Black, 74, has written biographies of several American presidents, as well as a history of Canada.

In 2017, he pardoned ex-Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio, who had been convicted of criminal contempt, after he defied a court order to stop traffic patrols targeting suspected immigrants. He could defend himself against charges of public corruption and risk decades in prison, or he could plead guilty and accept a 33-month sentence. He is still a British citizen.

Montreal-born Black renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2001 after a spat with then prime minister Jean Chretien, who protested the media owner's peerage to Britain's House of Lords.

In the book, Donald J. Trump: A President Like No Other, Black wrote that Trump is "a good deal more ethical and honest than many other businessmen and corporate directors I have known".

He wrote a column Thursday in Canada's National Post describing how Trump called him and revealed the pardon.
