BC woman identified as victim of Alaska plane crash

A small private plane

At this time, the U.S. Coast Guard and local search and rescue teams have "confirmed that nine of the guests have been rescued and are now receiving medical attention with the condition of one guest still unknown", Owyoung says.

Six people are missing after two floatplanes collided in midair Monday near the southeast Alaska town of Ketchikan, injuring 10 other people, one critically. Two others were missing, said Petty Officer Jon-Paul Rios, a Coast Guard spokesman.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were due to arrive later on Tuesday.

"For the folks we're looking for, the challenge that they're dealing with is that it is cold water", he told a news conference Tuesday.

One passenger on the larger plane died, as did two passengers and the pilot on the smaller plane, Princess Cruises said in a statement.

Earlier, the company confirmed that the pilot of a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver and at least three passengers were killed in the collision with a de Havilland Otter DHC-3 yesterday.

The Coast Guard had initially announced the death of four people on Monday, as authorities searched for two others who were missing.

Three survivors were released from PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center in Ketchikan on Tuesday.

The second, smaller plane-a de Havilland Beaver-was carrying four cruise guests and a pilot, on an independent tour.

Local emergency responders worked with state and federal agencies and good Samaritan vessels to help rescue and recover victims.

British Council staffer sentenced to 10 years for 'spying': Iran
Iranian authorities shut down the British Council there more than a decade ago for what Esmaili described as "illegal activities". Zaghari-Ratcliffe is serving a five-year term for allegedly trying to topple the Iranian government - charges she denied.

"It's been a long day and the crews have been working really hard to rescue people and recover the deceased", said Deanna Thomas, a spokeswoman for the local government, the Ketchikan Gateway Borough.

One of the planes was operated by Taquan Air, which said it has suspended all scheduled flights and is cooperating fully with investigators.

"We are devastated by this news and our hearts go out to our passengers and their families".

Terry O'Neill was aboard the cruise ship tour in which passengers died in a mid-air collision involving two sightseeing planes.

"The Captain came on and said there had been an accident", said cruise ship passenger, Diron Holt.

The Royal Princess departed Vancouver last Saturday, and was scheduled to arrive in Anchorage, AK on Saturday May 18.

The search is for two passengers, an Australian and Canadian, but Global Affairs Canada said Tuesday morning that the only Canadian involved in the crash is dead.

"We are deeply saddened by to report this news and our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their lives and the families of those impacted by today's accident", Owyoung said.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
