HTC’s New Exodus 1s Phone Is A Bitcoin Full Node

HTC's first blockchain phone Exodus 1 had a beautiful see-through design on the back. Hopefully the Exodus 1s will follow suit

HTC has been making inroads into the blockchain-on-your-phone market for a while now, with a renewed focus since the original Exodus smartphone.

According to HTC's chief officer of decentralized technology Phil Chen, "The bitcoin blockchain is about 200 (gigabytes), and it's growing about 60 gigs per year".

Taiwainese mobile phone manufacturer HTC is launching a more affordable blockchain phone with full Bitcoin BTC node capabilities.

In the fourth quarter of 2018, HTC globally launched its first Blockchain phone, the HTC Exodus 1.

When reporting on this phone over the past weekend what most news outlets neglected to mention is that there is already an open source project, albeit in the alpha stage, that provides an Android app (available from the Google Play store) called "ABCore" that is created to "make it easier to run a Bitcoin Core node on always on Android appliances such as set top boxes or repurposed tables/phones". "We definitely want to support that first and given what bitcoin stands for, open, neutral, censorship-resistance", Chen said. The same full node functionality is coming to the Exodus 1 as well, apparently, but that phone will need an SD card. "Nearly all full nodes also help the network by accepting transactions and blocks from other full nodes, validating those transactions and blocks, and then relaying them to further full nodes". With two of the most important annual conferences held in the crypto space, Magic Crypto Conference and Consensus, it's challenging to keep up with all the developments and innovation happening.

While the entire specs and feature details are still under the wraps, the firm confirms the HTC Exodus 1S will support HTC's Zion wallet app - a Blockchain vault that allows you to conduct cryptocurrency transactions, view and manage your crypto collectibles, and manage your crypto life while maintaining ownership of your keys.

The new model, the Exodus 1s, is slated for a release in Q3 2019, and is expected to sell at somewhere between $250 and $300.

Chen said, "The company has always believed in an open source environment and that's now more important than ever as the tech world recognizes that the open source movement got hijacked into owning everybody's data".

Besides the return of the Zion secure storage, the Exodus 1s also has some new features. While the bitcoin blockchain would be supported at launch, other networks could be added going forward. HTC had also made it clear that the phone had to be purchased with cryptocurrency.
