Kim Yo-jong disappears from public

North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un on Wednesday watched as his country test-fired a new tactical guided weapon, state-run media reported.

It was not immediately clear what type of weapon was sacked, but the move would mark the first weapons test since President Donald Trump's summit with Kim in Hanoi in February and a sign of public defiance by Kim following a stalemate in the high-stakes denuclearization talks. But the word tactical implies that it is a short-range weapon rather than the long-range ballistic missiles seen as a threat to the US.

USA officials told Fox News that the missile test was likely a "short-range" test of a small guided weapon and not a large ballistic missile.

State media Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) first reported the news.

"It shows that North Korea is going on, business as usual, after the failed Hanoi summit".

Kim "guided the test-fire" which was "conducted in various modes of firing at different targets", the KCNA agency said.

About 100 kilometres north of Pyongyang, Yongbyon is home to the country's first nuclear reactor and is the only known source of plutonium for the North's weapons programme.

Earlier that day, Pompeo told reporters in Dallas that he had seen Kim Jong-un's recent statement on a third North-U.S. summit, adding, "I appreciate that".

In April 2018, Kim had said North Korea would stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles, because Pyongyang's nuclear capabilities had been "verified".

The White House said it was aware of the weapons test report but refused to issue a comment.

The North Korean leader had also visited the Air and Anti-aircraft force on Thursday for a fight drill, expressing "great satisfaction" with their performance.

CNN's Will Ripley said the tactical test was aimed at getting President Donald Trump's attention.

Jenny Town, a North Korea expert at the Stimson Center think tank, said that if reprocessing was taking place, it would be a significant given U.S.
