Patriots Sign WR Demaryius Thomas; Re-Sign DB Jonathan Jones

Report Patriots signing WR Demaryius Thomas

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Patriots are going to sign former Denver Broncos and Houston Texans wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.

The New England Patriots are in desperate need of some help in the passing game, and they are turning to a long-time rival to get it. His best season came in 2014 when he was catching passes from Peyton Manning, hauling in 111 receptions for 1,619 yards - both career highs - and 11 touchdowns.

According to National Football League insider Field Yates, Thomas agreed to a deal with the New England Patriots. However, a torn Achilles derailed him for the rest of the season, and Houston released him after the campaign was over. New England has a total of 12 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, including six selections in the first three rounds.

Translation: After Edelman, the Patriots really don't have much at the wide receiver position for next season.

3 things to watch in Game 2 at Philadelphia
Having a reliable bench is great, especially when the 76ers' depth is widely considered to be their biggest weakness. After starting slowly, Embiid fueled a 21-2 blitz to start the third to turn a 65-64 halftime lead to an 86-66 edge.

Thomas, 31, was acquired by the Texans from the Denver Broncos just before last season's trade deadline.

That injury likely made Thomas a ideal low-risk, high-reward addition for the Patriots, as his rehab and uncertainty at 31 years old will nearly certainly keep the Patriots from any sort of significant financial commitment on this contract. But coming to New England will reunite him with Josh McDaniels, his head coach in Denver during his rookie year, and more importantly, means he'll have Tom Brady throwing him the football.

Now, there is still the draft and a possibility the team can still trade for a top receiver. Between the two teams, Thomas finished 2018 with 59 catches for 677 yards and five touchdowns. Josh Gordon, meanwhile, is still with the organization, but is suspended indefinitely.
