Golfer at Masters accidentally hits the ball during practice swing

Masters Zach Johnson accidentally smacks ball with practice swing... still birdies

American Zach Johnson is a two-time Major victor and one of the best golfers on the planet.

The 2007 Masters champion was on the 13th tee going through his pre-shot routine, swinging his driver but he swung a little too close and clipped his ball which bounced off a tee marker.

Johnson had fun with the incident, giving people on the tee box permission to laugh because, as he said, "That's embarrassing".

Johnson took a few practice swings, but accidentally knocked the ball off of the tee.

"I can't think of a time I've done it - not on objective", Johnson said of hitting the ball during a practice swing.

After the initial shock the Englishman said Johnson saw the amusing side. "I don't think I could do it again if I tried".

Johnson looked stunned for a moment, checking to see the reaction of his playing partners, Ian Poulter and Matt Kuchar. Had Johnson meant to hit the ball and simply whiffed, it would have counted as a stroke, but because he was clearly taking a practice swing - as evident by the fact that he had yet to "address", or set up behind the ball - he was allowed to re-tee and take his drive without penalty. "I thought I'd done it all, but now I know I have".

But even at the pinnacle of the sport, it seems that comical errors can be made, as Johnson has proved at Augusta during the Masters. He finished with a birdie on the par-5 13th, which moved him to 1 under on the afternoon.
