Trump's sudden shift to health care scrambles GOP plans

President Donald Trump speaks during a rally in Grand Rapids Mich. Thursday

"The actions taken by the Trump Administration seeking the invalidation of the ACA's protections for people with pre-existing conditions, and later the invalidation of the entire ACA, are an unacceptable assault on the health care of the American people", the resolution said, calling for the Justice Department to reverse its position in agreeing with the ruling of a Texas judge that invalidated Obamacare.

New York, 10 other states and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit challenging the Association Health Plan rule.

And on Wednesday, a federal district court judge blocked the administration's efforts to allow states to impose work requirements on Medicaid recipients.

At issue in the latest ruling are so-called "association health plans", in which businesses and sole proprietors can band together to offer lower-cost coverage that doesn't provide all the benefits required under the Affordable Care Act.

Watch: What if we switch to a single-payer health care system? Initial estimates said 3 million to 4 million people eventually would enroll, compared with more than 160 million Americans covered by current employer plans.

Sony Chairman Hirai Kazuo Announces Retirement
After all, with 35 years of service under his belt, Hirai is the face of Sony to many and Hirai himself appears to respect this. Hirai then became president of Sony in 2012 and gave up his Sony Computer Entertainment chairperson post later that year.

A separate Trump administration rule expanding the duration of another type of health plan that bypasses the law's requirements, short-term insurance plans, also faces a lawsuit pending in the U.S. District Court for the D.C. Circuit.

Trump has been touting the plans as a tremendous value for small businesses and sole proprietors, but the plans do not seem to have had a major impact. In the case of small-business plans, the administration's regulation granted them similar flexibility on benefits as enjoyed by big companies.

Bates' ruling comes after an intense week in the courts for the administration's health care policies.

Mr. Trump said he tasked specific Senate Republicans Thursday to form a "really great" health care plan and follow through with his promise to make the Republicans "the party of health care".

At first, Trump and the GOP set out to repeal and replace Obamacare.
