The league in recent seasons has put the previous Super Bowl victor at home on the Thursday opener but chose to begin this season with the league's oldest rivalry.

The Green Bay Packers and rival Chicago Bears will open up the 2019 National Football League season September 5.

Shortly following, it was finalized by the league that the season-opener is set in stone.

The Super Bowl champion has played in the first game every season since 2006, hosting all but once in that span. It will be known when the full schedule is released later in the spring.

The Northern Lights could be visible in the United Kingdom this weekend
The chances of observing the Northern Lights diminish as you head south because lights from Indianapolis make it more hard to see. We'd love to see what they look like where you live! They say the best time to see the lights will be on Saturday from 9pm.

The Bears and Packers have met 198 times in their history.

Last season, the Packers came from behind to beat the Bears in Week 1 at Lambeau Field.

It will be the 200th meeting between the NFC North rivals since 1921, when the Bears were the Chicago Staleys. Both games will be broadcast by NBC.

This will mark the second-straight season that the Bears are facing the Packers to start the season and the third time in the last five years they've done so, having also hosted the Packers to begin the 2015 season. Green Bay missed the playoffs with a 6-9-1 record, firing head coach Mike McCarthy during the disappointing campaign.
