Over 1mn march in London for a new Brexit referendum

Voting down the Prime Minister's Brexit deal for a third time would cause a "political meltdown", a minister has warned, after Theresa May admitted she may not garner enough support to get her plan through the Commons next week.

Mariella Frostrup and Richard Bacon, who were hosting a rally in Parliament Square, told the crowds an initial count showed the amount of people taking part in the march had topped 1 million.

Mrs May wrote: "If it appears that there is not sufficient support to bring the deal back next week, or the House rejects it again, we can ask for another extension before 12 April - but that will involve holding European Parliament elections".

The protest took place amid growing calls for Prime Minister Theresa May to resign.

London mayor Sadiq Khan from the opposition Labour party was at the head of the march, and tweeted: "We are the people - and when it comes to Brexit we want a say over our future".

However, the second scenario will occur should May's deal be rejected, with the deadline date instead of being April 12, leaving the threat of the United Kingdom crashing out of the European Union with "no-deal" a real possibility.

‘Fuller House’ Sisterhood Supports Lori Loughlin At Kids’ Choice Awards
Many celebs arrived at the 2019 Kids' Choice Awards , however, there was one star noticeably missing from the event: Lori Loughlin .

Large screens positioned along Whitehall told people how to text and tweet support for a People's Vote and a series of supportive video messages were played from celebrities including Stephen Fry, Gary Lineker and Delia Smith, while MPs lined up on stage to address the crowds.

He added: "Prime Minister, you've lost control of this process, you're plunging the country into chaos, let the people take control". It consists of the Withdrawal Agreement on the terms of the UK's exit from the European Union, and a Political Declaration outlining a framework for future ties. At the same time a petition to revoke Article 50 to stop the Brexit process has attracted more than 4 million signatures.

In the petition, its creator, Margaret Anne Georgiadou, proposes that instead of trying to find a compromise within Parliament and then the European Union, the Brexit efforts should be abandoned all together. "A People's Vote may not happen - so vote now". "It was three years ago but the government has become infamous for changing their mind - so why can't the people?"

Lawmakers are due to debate a government motion saying that parliament has considered a statement made by May on March 15 which set out the government's next steps on Brexit, including its plan to seek a delay.

Meanwhile, pro-Brexit campaigners continuing their long hike from the North East to the capital were joined by former Ukip leader Nigel Farage near Nottingham.

The director of the People's Vote campaign and one of the organisers of the march, James McGrory, said that the campaign for a second Brexit referendum is now the biggest mass movement in the United Kingdom, overshadowing the membership of the main political parties.
