NY poll: Ocasio-Cortez is the "villain" in Amazon HQ2 pullout

NY poll: Ocasio-Cortez is the

Just 21 percent of those polled said that it was a good thing. While marijuana is likely to loom large on the agenda, lawmakers will also take up proposals to overhaul voting rules, codify abortion rights and give molestation victims more time to sue their abusers.

By as almost as large a margin, 61-30 percent, they support the deal in which Amazon would receive up to $3 billion in state and city incentives and create up to 25,000 jobs if Amazon reconsiders, according to a new Siena College poll of New York State registered voters released today."At least 63 percent of Democrats, Republicans and independents, upstaters and downstaters, men and women, young and old, black and white New Yorkers agree: Amazon pulling out of Queens was bad for New York".While some may have celebrated Amazon's announcement to pull the plug, the vast majority of New Yorkers of every stripe thought it was bad for the Empire State.

The newly released Siena Poll found that 67 percent of New Yorkers said that Amazon cancelling its planned headquarters in Queens was bad for NY. Ocasio-Cortez was an outspoken opponent to the company's plan, especially when it came to the roughly $3 billion in state and city incentives the company was offered.

About 49 percent of New York Democrats said they support giving driver's licenses to illegal aliens, though 45 of New York Democrats said they oppose such a policy. As Greenberg put it, "Clearly, jobs outweigh the cost of government incentives in the minds of most voters".

Thirty-eight percent identified the freshman congresswoman as the biggest villain while only 12 percent called her a hero.

Ocasio-Cortez was critical of the deal and celebrated when Amazon announced last month that it was pulling out of NY, but she has since indicated she's not totally opposed to Amazon setting up shop in the city.

Tensions between the EPP and Orban had been brewing for years before the poster incident. Orban is a long way from basic Christian Democratic values", he told German radio.

Corbin Trent, a spokesman for Ocasio-Cortez, declined to comment on the poll. Citizens spread their animus far and wide, with 34 percent also calling local activists the chief villain.

Another 34 percent said Ocasio-Cortez's local activist allies were the main villains, while 29 percent blamed New York City's unpopular Mayor Bill de Blasio and 28 percent blamed Democratic Gov. "Even 56 percent of self-described liberals think it was bad for New York", Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg stated.

"Nothing that I didn't know", he said.

Speaking on WAMC's Roundtable hours after the poll was released, Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo says the cancellation is "devastating".

"The horse is out of the barn", he said. She is viewed slightly favorably in New York City but strongly unfavorably upstate and in the downstate suburbs.

According to the poll, New Yorkers have thrown plenty of blame around at several elected officials. An overwhelming number of people believe Amazon's decision in February deals a blow to the state, according to the poll, which surveyed 700 registered voters and has a margin of error of 4.2 percentage points.
