Manchester City 'closing on Saul Niguez deal'

Man Utd winning Antoine Griezmann transfer battle against Barcelona and Bayern Munich

Manchester United have been linked with Atletico Madrid star Antoine Griezmann in the past and once again, the French global is in the lime light.

Barcelona has also had interest in Saul, who was interested in joining the club before ultimately deciding upon City.

Saul signed a nine-year deal with Diego Simeone's side in 2017 and subsequently his contract at Atletico runs out in 2026. "He can't stay at Atletico anymore, everything's complicated for him there", a source told ESPN FC.

When they sold David Villa to Atletico in 2013, president Josep Maria Bartomeu ensured the deal included a first option on three players: Saul, Koke and right-back Javier Manquillo (now at Newcastle).

Brexit: Second EU referendum ‘not what people want’, says Theresa May
Talks are expected to continue with the DUP ahead of any vote in the hope of overturning its defeat by a margin of 149 last week. Jeremy Corbyn indicated that he sees Monday as the point for Labour to mount a challenge to the Government's approach.

The striker had been linked with a move to Barcelona.

City are on the look out for a defensive-minded midfielder to provide competition for - and eventually to replace - Fernandinho.

But reports in Spain suggest Griezmann is now seeking a way out of the Wanda Metropolitano following Atletico's elimination from the Champions League last week.

However the Premier League champions have been regularly scuppered in their attempts to fill the role - targets de Jong, Fred and Jorginho were snapped up by Barcelona, Manchester United and Chelsea respectively.
