Ronaldo fined but avoids ban. GOAL

Juventus star Cristiano Ronaldo will not be serving match ban according to UEFA following his provocatory celebration against Atletico Madrid in their Champions League triumph in March.

Ronaldo escaped suspension as Uefa announced the decision of its control, ethics and disciplinary body in a short statement on Thursday afternoon.

The 34-year-old is heavily criticised for his "cojones" goal celebration, following Juventus' 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid.

He celebrated at the final whistle by mimicking Simeone's gesture.

Argentinian Simeone was also fined 20,000 euros by Uefa for his celebration, with European football's governing body following suit in Ronaldo's case.

Ronaldo was fined the same sum imposed on Atletico coach Diego Simeone for the same gesture during the round of 16 first-leg game in Spain.

The celebration came after Ronaldo had netted his hat-trick and sealed an unlikely comeback to send the Italian club into the quarter-finals, where they will face Ajax.
