‘Hero’ dad Abdul Aziz saved people from Christchurch terrorist

Abdul Aziz: The man who saved lives by running at the Christchurch gunman

The atrocities took place in Masjid Al Noor mosque, where at least 41 people were killed and another seven were shot dead inside the suburban Linwood Masjid Mosque. The number of injured is also 50, 36 of those remain in Christchurch Hospital, 2 remain critical and one child in Starship Hospital.

Suspect Brenton Tarrant, a 28-year-old Australian, has appeared in court charged with one murder over the shootings.

A new disturbing photo captures the moment a blood-soaked survivor of Friday morning's New Zealand mosque shooting walked away from the horrific scene. Seven were killed at the Linwood mosque.

He saw a man in black military-style gear and a helmet holding a large gun and assumed it was a police officer. Then he saw two bodies and heard the gunman yelling obscenities.

"I realized this is something else".

Pakistan's high commissioner said six citizens had been killed and three were missing.

He yelled at the congregation of more than 80 to get down.

"Then this brother came over".

"He (Aziz) went after him, and he managed to overpower him, and that's how we were saved". Then he went to the mosque as usual.

There were tales of heroism at the Linwood mosque too, where Syed Mazharuddin said a man wrestled a weapon off the attacker, who cut short his killing spree and ran to a waiting auto.

Abdul Aziz, 48, told media he heard shooting and ran outside the mosque, shouting at the gunman and drawing him away from the building, the Newshub website reported.

JLR also declared that it shall be contacting the owners of the affected vehicles in order to arrange free-of-charge repairs. Additionally, some of the affected vehicles will require physical repairs while others will just need software updates.

He said he could hear his two youngest sons, aged 11 and five, urging him to come back inside.

The gunman returned, firing.

The gunman fired back but Aziz was able to dodge him by weaving through parked cars, which prevented the gunman from having a clear aim.

Mosque worker Abdul Aziz risked his own life to challenge the gunman and try to snatch his weapon, according to attack survivor Syed Mazharuddin.

Bush said the body of the 50th victim was found at the Al Noor mosque, where more than 40 people died after a gunman entered and shot at people with a semi-automatic rifle with high-capacity magazines, before traveling to a second mosque. "And I just got the gun and throw it on his window like an arrow and blast his window".

The windshield shattered, Mr Aziz said. "This is a killer", he said.

He said he chased the vehicle down the street to a red light, before it performed a U-turn and sped away.

Online videos indicate police officers managed to force the auto from the road and drag out the suspect soon after.

Aziz, who's originally from Afghanistan, said he left his home country as a refugee at an early age and lived in Australia for 25 years before moving to New Zealand just a couple years ago.

"I've been to a lot of countries and this is one of the lovely ones", he said, adding that he had always thought New Zealand was peaceful.
