Silvio Berlusconi: Model in trial killed by alleged ‘radioactive poisoning'

Moroccan model Fadil Imane leaves the courthouse in Milan hearing the bunga bunga case involving Silvio Berlusconi

Fadil testified at the 2012 trial of Berlusconi, who was accused of paying for sex with an underage prostitute and was scheduled to give evidence again against Berlusconi over accusations that he offered to buy silence from women who attended his parties and paid other guests to reaffirm that his dinners were innocent. He was later convicted of tax fraud and sentenced to carry out community service.

Berlusconi told the BBC: 'It's always a pity when a young person dies.

ANSA quoted Greco as lamenting that the Humanitas hospital in Rozzano didn't report Fadil's complaints or symptoms, which he said were consistent with poisoning while she was being treated.

But he added: "I've never known this person and never spoke to her".

Fadil's lawyer, Paolo Sevesi, said she had spoken to him about "her fear of having been poisoned", the AGI news agency reported.

"The doctors have not identified with any certainty any pathology which can explain the death", he said.

According to Italy's Corriere della Sera daily, the hospital had run a battery of tests to determine the cause of her failing health, but finding nothing, had sent off samples to a specialised laboratory in the northern town of Pavia.

The results suggested the presence of a mix of radioactive substances, including cobalt.

Ms Fafil, who was planning to write a book about the scandal, died two weeks ago but her death was kept secret.

Mr Berlusconi's reputation was tarnished by allegations about the parties at his private villa.

Back in May 2010, a 17-year-old exotic nightclub dancer, Karima "Ruby" El Mahroug, left police custody in Milan after Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi called surprised officials to say that the teen should be released because she was the granddaughter of the Egyptian president.

She was being held for theft and was also said to have attended his so-called "bunga-bunga" parties.
