Police questioning suspect in Gambino crime boss death

Francesco Cali 53 was shot multiple times in front of his home on Hilltop Terrace on Wednesday

In a statement, police said the investigation is still in progress and an arrest has not yet been made.

Crime scene investigators load a vehicle that appears to have been checked for fingerprints onto a flatbed truck in the Staten Island borough of New York, Thursday, March 14, 2019.

A suspect is in custody in the shooting death of the reputed Gambino crime family boss, according to city police.

Police apprehended Anthony Comello in New Jersey on Saturday and expect to charge him with murdering Cali, the New York Police Department's Chief of Detectives Dermot Shea told a news conference. "Was the person paid to do it?"

U.S. judge rules Qualcomm owes Apple nearly $1 billion rebate payment
Qualcomm's legal victory today covers a case that's only one of many legal tussles playing out in courtrooms around the world. The jury agreed with Qualcomm's contention that it should be paid $1.41 per iPhone relying on three of its patents.

Surveillance video of the killing showed a man, allegedly Comello, crash his vehicle into Cali's parked SUV, drawing Cali outside in what might have been a ploy to lure him out of the house, Shea said. Shea said Cali was shot 10 times.

Police said surveillance video captures the shooter, and the pick-up believed to be the getaway truck. But NBC New York cited unnamed law enforcement sources who said that the death does not appear to be mob related and and who described the suspect as a conspiracy theorist. Cali was widely viewed as the leader of the notorious Gambino crime family. News accounts since 2015 said he had ascended to the top spot. He was sentenced to 16 months behind bars and was released in 2009. They were able to link him to Cali's murder after finding his fingerprints on a silver Cadillac Escalade belonging to the deceased mobster.

Cali was the first NY crime family boss shot since 1985, when Paul Castellano, who owned a mansion on Todt Hill, was executed as he arrived at Sparks Steakhouse in Manhattan.
