Senator Fraser Anning was egged by a teenage boy during a press conference in Melbourne

In footage from the incident posted to news site News.com.au, the youth smashes the egg against the side of Mr Anning's head while filming the incident on his phone.

An Australian senator who blamed the tragic Christchurch massacre on Muslim immigration, inciting outrage worldwide, was caught on video punching a teenager on Saturday after being egged while talking to media.

Anning then immediately turns and slaps the teenager, before attempting to attack him again.

The Aussie politician had tried to claim the deadly attacks on two Christchurch mosques that left 49 people dead and about 50 injured on Friday were a result of New Zealand's immigration policies.

The senator was expelled from Katter's Australian Party, after people condemned him for his "white supremacy ideology".

Five fully grown men held the boy down on the floor until police arrived. Police are investigating the possibility that other suspects may have been involved.
