Google Lookout App Seeks To Assist The Blind And Visually Impaired

Google uses its AI expertise to help the blind explore their surroundings

Enter Lookout, a Google-designed mobile app targeted at the "nearly 253 million people in the world who are blind or visually impaired". Because of this, they are looking for feedback from users, so if you have some after using the app, send it here.

Users will have three modes to select from - Explore, Shopping, and Quick Read. The app also has a camera view for live recognition.

Announced at last year's I/O, Lookout is finally available for users to try out. For ease of use, Google suggested users to hang their Android device around their neck or place it in a shirt pocket with the camera facing forward.

For what it's worth, Google's "hope" is that availability will be expanded "soon" to "more devices, countries, and platforms", although there are no words on a timetable of any sort. If you are living in the USA and using Google's own Pixel smartphone, then you can grab this app from the link mentioned below.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang Celebrates Second Goal vs. Rennes With Black Panther Mask
The late goal was the forward's second of the night, and it all but sealed Arsenal's place in the Europa League quarterfinals. He immediately went behind the goal where he picked up a bag containing a mask of the popular Marvel character Black Panther.

According to a blog entry by Google, Lookout utilizes man-made consciousness, similar to Google Lens, and gives clients a chance to hunt and make a move on items around them by just pointing the phone.

The company says Lookout will work on the original Google Pixel, Google Pixel 2, and Google Pixel 3 phones running on Android 8.0 or above.

The app, which was first announced at Google's I/O developer conference previous year, is now available to United States users with a Pixel device, although Google Accessibility Engineering product manager Patrick Clary said in a blog post that Google "hope [s] to bring Lookout to more devices, countries and platforms soon".

It is unclear when the giant will release the same app for other Smartphones. Also, if you like our efforts, consider sharing this story with your friends, this will encourage us to bring more exciting updates for you.
