Police file dowry, sexual harassment charges against Indian cricketer Shami

Kolkata Police files chargesheet against Indian pacer Mohammed Shami for dowry and sexual harassment

"A chargesheet has been filed against cricketer Mohammed Shami under section 498A (domestic violence) and 354A (Sexual harassment)".

Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami was on Thursday charged with domestic violence and sexual harassment by the police here on the basis of his wife's complaint. Shami responded by saying that the accusations leveled by Hasin against him were a part of a conspiracy to ruin his career.

The bitter spat between Shami and his estranged wife Hasin Jahan came out in open on March 7 a year ago after the latter posted screenshots of the Indian pacer's alleged affair on social media. The charges have been registered under non-bailable offences by Kolkata Police. She had produced screenshots of Shami's alleged conversation with his girlfriend, who, according to Jahan, he had met in Dubai. This had also led to BCCI omitting the pacer from the list of players with a central contract pending an investigation.

Jahan had lodged a police case at the Kolkata police headquarters on 8 March 2018, accusing him and his family of torture, physical abuse and mental harassment.

Shami, who picked up five wickets in four matches in recently-concluded ODI series against Australia, will be participating in the Indian Premier League from next week with Kings XI Punjab.
