Airline apologizes for making woman 'cover up'

Airline apologises to woman after threatening to offload her for wearing ‘inappropriate’ attire

Emily O'Connor described the "worst experience of [her] life" when she was allegedly told she could only travel on the flight from Birmingham to Tenerife if she put a jacket on.

She claims she was repeatedly asked by cabin crew to cover up - first as she was boarding the plane, and subsequently by a group of the plane's staff who surrounded her in her seat and claimed her outfit was "inappropriate".

A British woman has launched an all-out attack against Thomas Cook Airlines for threatening to remove her from the flight because of her objectionable wear.

This was when a fellow male passenger confronted Emily with verbal abuse, telling her "Shut up you pathetic woman".

Thomas Cook Airlines said it has apologized to O'Connor and the airline's cabin services director had spoken to her "to find out more information" about the incident.

The flight staff hounded her for 20 minutes until Emily gave in and wore a jacket lent to her by her cousin. Emily recalls "I was given a jacket by my cousin sitting at the front of the plane and they did not leave until I physically put it on".

She added: "The manager then went to get my bag to remove me from the flight". She says was left "shaking" and upset by the incident, as comments were made over the plane's speakers about the situation.

In a statement, Thomas Cook Airlines said it has apologised to O'Connor.

The holidaymaker was forced to defend herself further as she appear of Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield's sofa on This Morning.

A Thomas Cook spokesperson says the airline is sorry to have upset O'Connor and "could have handled the situation better", reports The Telegraph.

"In common with most airlines we have an appropriate attire policy". She said that she got through security and roamed around the entire airport without any problem. The policy is applicable to men and women of all ages, it said, adding that airline crews face the "difficult task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right".

Meanwhile, Emily also narrated her ordeal on Twitter and received a lot of support from the netizens who called out Thomas Cook for its misogynistic behaviour. "Our crews have the hard task of implementing that policy and don't always get it right".
