250 scientists warn trendy wireless earphones may pose higher risks to cancer

Here’s what 250 scientists says about your wireless AirPods

"Numerous recent scientific publications have shown that EMF affects living organisms at levels well below most global and national guidelines", states the petition, which also casts serious shade at the WHO.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has developed guidelines for the level of electromagnetic frequency (EMF) that various devices are allowed to expose users to.

A Medium article published last week poses the question, "Are AirPods and Other Bluetooth Headphones Safe?".

The petitioners stop short of naming Bluetooth or any particular products, the technology does use radiofrequency radiation, and AirPods in particular also use an electromagnetic field. Phillips is one of the many scientists who have called for a restriction on use of such devices.

The bubble may be bursting for AirPods users, however, as a number of scientists have come out to say the device is harmful and may have the potential of causing cancer.

"Bluetooth could open the blood-brain barrier that evolved to keep large molecules out of the brain, since the technology tends to be low-intensity", said Moskowitz.

The petition further mentions such diagnoses as cancer, neurological disorders, and even DNA damage, citing research that links these to EMF exposure, and hence, the use of wireless headphones.

The petition demands that existing guidelines be strengthened and the public be better informed of the risks of radio waves. According to Kenneth Foster, a Professor of biotechnology at the University of Pennsylvania, speaks of the evidence for that of Bluetooth headphones and similar devices is no danger to go out.

AirPods in particular are concerning because they sit deeply enough within the ear canal to emit expose these fragile parts of the ear to unsafe among of radiation, some experts warn.

This means that radiowaves are less risky than higher energy radiation like X-rays or UV, but more extremely low-frequency radiation.

The petition too said The International Agency for Research on Cancer determined recently that EMF to humans is 'possibly carcinogenic'.

"Clearly there is a great and present need for more research to be done to clarify the exact risks associated with each kind of EMF, scientists believe the current use of these technologies is throwing caution to the wind very dangerously, and they want to hold regulators accountable as such they write: ".various agencies setting safety standards have failed to impose sufficient guidelines to protect the public, particularly children who are more vulnerable to the effects of EMF... by not taking action W.H.O is failing to fulfill its role as the preeminent worldwide public health agency".

Fiat Chrysler to Recall 862520 US Vehicles Over Excess Emissions
However, given the large number of vehicles included in the recall, the campaign will span the entirety of the 2019 calendar year. The EPA says Chrysler will fix the emissions issue by fitting the affected vehicles with a new catalytic converter.
